Mr. Rossen Naydenov, Officer in Network and Information Security

Μr. Rossen Naydenov is a Network and Information security expert focusing on cybersecurity in Critical Sectors, mainly in Finance and Transport. Areas of expertise include Cloud Computing, Big Data, and emerging technologies like IoT, Blockchain. He works within the ENISA Secure Infrastructure & Services Unit, researching security measures, incident reporting, and policy implementation. Mr. Naydenov has more than 15 years of experience in Information Security, collected from various positions in his career. In recent years, he has been involved in conducting studies in the automotive field. The latest report on Smart Cars security from 2019 covers cybersecurity assets, threats, and security measures covering levels 4 and 5 of autonomy.

Prof. Sokratis Katsikas, Rector / Professor

Prof. Sokratis K. Katsikas was born in Athens, Greece, in 1960. He received the Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the University of Patras, Patras, Greece in 1982, the Master of Science in Electrical & Computer Engineering degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Amherst, USA, in 1984, and the Ph.D. in Computer Engineering & Informatics from the University of Patras, Patras, Greece in 1987. In 2019 he was awarded a Doctorate Honoris Causa by the Dept. of Production and Management Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece.Prof. Katsikas is the Director of the Norwegian Center for Cybersecurity in Critical Sectors and Professor with the Department of Information Security and Communication Technology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway. His current research interests lie in the area of Information and Communication Systems security. Over the past 35 years, his research activity has resulted in 44 books; 38 book chapters; 99 journal publications (of which nine invited); and 131 publications in conference proceedings (of which 30 invited). Prof. Katsikas has participated in more than 60 funded national and international R&D projects. Prof. Katsikas is serving on the editorial board of several scientific journals and has served on/chaired the technical program committee of more than 750 international scientific conferences. He chairs the Steering Committee of the ESORICS Conferences.

Mr. Matteo Merialdo, Manager Security Research and Development

Mr. Matteo Merialdo works as Deputy Director for Security Services in RHEA Group and responsible for the main technical aspects of product development and projects overseeing involving more than 50 staff members.His initial background lies in Software Engineering and Software Architecture for the Telecom sector. Starting in 2013, he built up a career in the Security Domain with various technical and then management positions. Mr. Merialdo is an expert in risk analysis, information sharing and threat intelligence gathering, cyber range technologies, and security-by-design for complex systems. Among his past activities as Project Manager, he technically led multiple large projects for the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Horizon 2020 program.

Mr. Yiannis Toskas, CEO

Mr. Yiannis Toskas is a Senior Transportation Planner and the CEO of the Public Transport Authority of Thessaloniki (OSETH/ or TheTA). Mr. Toskas has received his Civil Engineering Diploma from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1985). Following his studies, he pursued graduate degrees in the USA in Urban Planning (MUP) and Transportation Engineering (MS) from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA. After his graduation and return to Greece, he firstly became a transportation consultant. In 1991 he accepted a position in the public sector as a qualified staff member of the Master Plan Organization of Thessaloniki (Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning), where he successfully served for more than 23 years. In December of 2004, he was appointed as Chairman of the Public Transport Authority of Thessaloniki (S.A.S.Th.) and served two terms (until March 2010). He also worked for ATTIKO METRO SA (2013-late 2014). His long career and involvement in various large-scale urban planning and transportation projects in the Hellenic public sector are now enhanced by a challenging position as the CEO of the Public Transport Authority of Thessaloniki (OSETH/ or TheTA). Mr. Toskas is in charge of planning, supervision, and coordination of activities by the PT modes and operators of the Greater Thessaloniki Area (GTA).

Dr. Petros Kapsalas, Technical Leader

Dr. Petros Kapsalas received his Diploma degree and his M.A.Sc. Degree from the Technical University of Crete (Dep. of Electronics & Computer Engineering) and his Ph.D. from the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, National Technical University of Athens, Greece in 2004, 2006, and 2011. During his Ph.D. studies, he worked as a researcher at Image Video and Multimedia Analysis Lab (ICCS, NTUA) at the National Technical University of Athens, where he had been involved in numerous FP7 research projects on the context of Computer Vision for Surveillance applications, visual datasets automated Indexing. From 2004 to 2006, he had been working as a research assistant in the Telecommunications Institute Crete. From 2011 until now, Dr. Kapsalas has been working as a Computer Vision Expert and ADAS Technical Leader on two highly ranked Automotive Tier1 Suppliers (Valeo Vision Systems & Panasonic) and actively participating in numerous academic and industrial projects. His research interests lie in the fields of Computer Vision, Signal Processing, Sensor Fusion, Machine Learning, and 3D Geometry. Dr. Kapsalas has published more than 20 research papers in numerous scientific peer-reviewed conferences and journals. He has also been invited speaker at many Scientific and Industrial Conferences, lead committee member of the IEEE P2020 Automotive Standard, and Guest Editor on Journal’s Special Issues. He has participated as a researcher in numerous EU research projects: OPTAG, IMAGINATION, MESH, EUROPEANA, X- MEDIA, CARAMEL, CPSoSAWARE, and Dr. Kapsalas acts as a reviewer for many Computer Vision Conferences and Journals (ICIP, BMVC, ACM, etc.).
